Assam : Hailakandi town declared ODF

The areas under the Hailakandi Municipal Board have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
Making a formal declaration to this effect, Chairperson (In-charge) of the municipal board, Shyamali Roy said that the areas under the municipality have been declared ODF following a preliminary survey.
Executive Officer, Bhadra Kanta Sarma said of the 543 Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) sanctioned in the 2016-17 fiscal as per Baseline Survey 2012, 73 toilets have been built by the NGOs engaged by the municipality and 37 by the beneficiaries themselves from the funds directly transferred to their accounts. The rest of the toilets are under various stages of construction.
Sarma said the town has been declared ODF after getting feedbacks from the authorities of educational institutions, guardians, leading citizens, SHGs, NGOs and other agencies.
The Executive Officer said the denizens living under 16 different wards of the municipality can file submission for and against the notification on or before June 15 next.
