Dokmoka mob lynching incident is still on the mind of people of Assam, yet another assault came to light from Darang in which a youth was beaten up by a mob. A video of this incident has gone viral in social media.
The incident took place at Kalaigaon area in Darrang district, where the youth hailing from Gauripur area in Dhubri district brutally assaulted by a mob. The incident took place about a week ago but the video has come to light now.
The video shows the unruly people allegedly tying the hands of the youth and savagely assaulting him . The youth is seen pleading innocent and asking repeatedly what mistake did he commit.
The mob reportedly took objection to a meet between the young man and a local girl. Victim Bijay Rai was meeting a girl in Kalaigaon locality when he was heckled by the mob.
The police said that incident took place on June 9 when the victim Bijay was on way to Adarasha village under Kalaigaon police station was surrounded and beaten up by the group.
In the video, the youth is seen screaming, “I am Assamese”, and telling the mob his parents’ names and his address, in an attempt to convince them to stop.
Following the incident, local organisations lodged FIR with the police. The organizations have demanded proper investigation of the matter and arrest of the culprits involved at the earliest.
However the Mangaldai Police later left the youth in personal recognition bond after medical treatment.
