Assam: Traditional weaves from Assam to global market
A joint initiative by Indian Army and Aseem foundation
Guwahati: ( By- Girish Chandra Das ) The hand woven Scarf of Barpeta in Assam strives to become global due to joint effort of Indian Army and Aseem Foundation.
When 49 year old Kalpana Burman of Sorbhog Village got associated with a venture being undertaken by Indian Army and Aseem foundation to enhance the traditional designs as per requirement of Indian Metros and Western Nations, little did she realize that her traditional skill would get such appreciations.
The project aims at improving economic condition and providing an opportunity to earn through self employment. The creativity of women of Assam is being taken to next level by modifying traditional designs to modern needs to make them lucrative for international markets.
Indian Army is providing machines through Op Sadbhavana and Aseem Foundation is providing a training and marketing platform. Within a short span of time this joint effort has translated in increasing the monthly income of weavers by three times.
The continued and determined effort of Indian Army and Aseem Foundation would lead to improvement in overall financial status of families of this village and would contribute commercially in Assam and Nation Building.
