According to the FIR, students allege that Assistant Professor engaged in repeated misconduct, including making sexually explicit and defamatory remarks, threatening academic repercussions, and coercing students into meeting him at isolated locations such as restaurants and private cabins during odd hours.
The complaint further claims that the Assistant Professor manipulated students into providing false statements in his support and used derogatory language targeting the personal lives of both students and faculty members. The students have stated their readiness to provide evidence, including call recordings, screenshots, and witness testimonies, to substantiate their claims.

In response to the allegations, the Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a protest outside the university gate on May 4, 2025. AUSU Vice President Utsav Singh addressed the media, condemning Professor’s alleged behavior and highlighting the inappropriate nature of questions posed to female students. “Some of these questions are too disturbing to repeat,” Singh stated.
The incident has raised broader concerns about safety and accountability at Assam University, with students and locals pointing to a pattern of misconduct on campus.
“Assam University was established after years of struggle, but its reputation is being tarnished by recurring allegations,” a student protester remarked.
The university administration has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations against Professor. However, the protests and public outcry have put pressure on the authorities to act swiftly.
This incident follows a history of similar allegations at Assam University and other institutions in the region. In August 2024, one Assistant Professor from the Department of Law was arrested for sexually harassing a sixth-semester student, prompting similar protests. Observers note that recurring cases highlight the urgent need for stronger mechanisms to address sexual harassment in academic settings.
As the investigation unfolds, the Assam University community remains on edge, with students vowing to continue their protests until justice is served and measures are implemented to protect students from future misconduct.
