Manipur: 24 hr lightning Shutdown called by NPO begins at Senapati

IMPHAL- A 24-hour lightning shutdown in Senapati District started from 4 PM on Saturday, in connection to the physical assault and robbery of two Senapati youths in Thoubal. The shutdown called by Naga People’s Organization ( NPO ).
The incident took place on Thursday when two youths from Senapati were assaulted and robbed in Thoubal. Frontal organisation from the district had strongly condemned the incident and demanded stern actions against the perpetrators.

The NPO stated, that with no response from responsible CSOs representing the involved community to mediate or redress the issue, the Organization has started a lightning 24-hour shutdown starting from 4 pm today followed by Restriction of All Commercial Vehicular Traffic beyond Senapati District Headquarters.
Addressing media, H. Kuba Peter, President, Naga People’s Organization stated that despite the gravity of the incident, there has been no attempt by the responsible Civil Society Organization (CSO) representing the involved community to mediate or address the issue.

The President mentioned that the victims are well aware of the parties involved; however, the culprits are attempting to feign innocence.
With their patience being tested and left with no choice but to take measures to protect their own people and maintain order within the district, the NPO stated that they are compelled to implement a total 24-hour shutdown effective from 4 PM, November 2, which will be followed by restrictions on all commercial vehicular traffic movements beyond Senapati District Headquarters.
Additionally, the NPO President warns that they may intensify their stance with further measures if deemed necessary.
Earlier on Monday, Manipur Police had arrested a KCP cadre for having been involved in the assault and looting.
