Manipur: CM flags off 18.5 Km Road Project in Imphal East

18.50 km road from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam to be upgraded under Ministry of DoNER to enhance connectivity and economic access.

IMPHAL EAST:  Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Sunday flagged off the upgradation of an 18.5 kilometre road stretch from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). The ceremony was held at Napet Palli in Imphal East district.

The project seeks to strengthen road connectivity between Lamlai and the Thoubal Dam region, an area with agricultural and local trade significance. Officials said the improved stretch is expected to facilitate smoother transportation of goods and passengers, reducing travel time and enhancing road safety.

The chief minister stated that the initiative is aimed at expanding economic opportunities by linking farmers and traders to larger markets. Improved access to healthcare and educational institutions was also highlighted as a key anticipated benefit.

The Ministry of DoNER has been supporting infrastructure expansion across the Northeast as part of broader regional development objectives. In Manipur, road connectivity has remained a priority area, given the state’s terrain and the importance of linking rural pockets with district and state headquarters.

Infrastructure development has been positioned as central to the government’s strategy for economic growth and self-reliance. The road upgradation is expected to contribute to mobility, commercial activity, and public service access in Imphal East and adjoining areas.
