Manipur CM Inaugurates Itham–Moirangpurel Bridge Work

2.10 km bridge over Thoubal River launched under PMGSY to strengthen rural connectivity and economic access.

IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Sunday inaugurated the construction of the Itham–Moirangpurel Bridge over the Thoubal River, a 2.10-kilometre project being undertaken under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

The bridge aims to improve connectivity between communities separated by the Thoubal River, which has historically posed logistical challenges during monsoon seasons and periods of high water flow.

According to officials, the project is expected to facilitate easier access to agricultural markets, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions for residents of the region. Improved connectivity is also anticipated to support small businesses and local trade.

PMGSY, a centrally sponsored scheme, focuses on enhancing rural road infrastructure across India to ensure all-weather connectivity to unconnected habitations. In Manipur, such projects have been considered critical due to geographical constraints and dispersed settlements.
