Manipur: Education Department Successfully Trains over 470 Teachers, 130 Headmasters under STAR Education
The STAR Education program has been successfully running in 253 government schools since 2022; the program will now be expanded to an additional 108 schools
IMPHAL- The Education Department of the Government of Manipur has achieved a significant milestone by successfully conducting a Teachers’ Induction Training under the School Fagathansi Mission’s STAR Education program. Over 470 teachers and 130 headmasters have completed the training and are now equipped to implement the STAR Education Program in their respective schools.
The Teacher’s Induction Training spanned 10 days and took place at Kamakhya Pemton, Hiyangthang, from January 30 to February 9, 2024. Notably, the training also catered to schools already enrolled in the STAR Education program, with a total of 154 schools participating in the training.
Manipur Education Dept to conduct Teachers’ Induction Training under STAR Education program
The Induction Training is designed to equip government teachers in Manipur with essential tools, technology, and teaching methods to improve student learning outcomes through the STAR Education Program.
During the course of the Induction Training, the Zonal Education Officers of Imphal East, Imphal West, Kamjong, Bishnupur, and Thoubal interacted with the teachers and expressed optimism about the positive impact the Teachers’ Induction Training will have on the teachers. Additionally, representatives from the Education Department and Additional Director, Samagra Shiksha, Smt Khumukcham Renuka Devi paid a visit to the training site, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to the betterment of government schools.
The Graduation Ceremony for the teachers and headmasters who completed the training was held on 9th February 2024 at Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang. Among the esteemed guests were Chief Guest Shri L. Nandakumar Singh,SPD/SSM and Director, Education (S) and Guests of Honour : Dr. Wahengbam Nimai Singh, Principal of Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang and Sujatha Muthayya, Vice-President, Policy and Partnerships, NewGlobe. ZEO’s from different districts also participated in the graduation ceremony.
Certificates were presented to participating teachers and headmasters, marking the successful completion of the Teachers’ Induction Training program. Over 100 smartphones and 700 tablets were distributed to the teachers reflecting the program’s commitment to empowering teachers with technology-enabled teaching tools.
The Government of Manipur’s dedication to improving education standards statewide is evident in the successful conclusion of the Teachers’ Induction Training. This initiative emphasises the government’s commitment to elevating the quality of education in government schools. Through the STAR Education program, teachers gain the essential skills and knowledge for significant enhancements in teaching methodologies and student learning outcomes.
The Manipur Government and the Education Department continue to assess the implementation of the program. Just within the first 18 weeks of implementation, the program showed significant progress in learning outcomes among students in STAR supported government schools.
According to the Midline Survey done last year, schools under the program have experienced an almost 4x acceleration in fluency outcomes compared to the status quo. Numeracy skills also increased by 8% , surpassing schools not utilising the STAR Education teaching methodology. Moreover, enrolment in schools under the STAR Education program has surged by 7.4k students within the same timeframe.
The STAR Education program is already being implemented successfully in 253 government schools under the School Fagathansi Mission since its establishment in 2022. The expansion to new schools is part of the commitment of bringing about transformative change in government school education across Manipur.
