Manipur: Last Rites of BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham Performed with Full State
The 25-year-old braveheart succumbed to injuries sustained during cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s RS Pura sector on May 10, 2025, during Operation Sindoor.

IMPHAL- The last rites of Border Security Force (BSF) Constable Deepak Chingakham, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, were performed with full state honours in his hometown of Yairipok Mathak Leikai, Imphal East district, Manipur, on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old braveheart succumbed to injuries sustained during cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s RS Pura sector on May 10, 2025, during Operation Sindoor.
Constable Chingakham’s mortal remains were flown to Imphal on an Indigo flight, where a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at Imphal Airport.

Senior officials, including representatives from the BSF and Manipur government, paid their respects before the body was taken to his native village for the final rites.
The ceremony was attended by family, friends, and community members, who mourned the loss of a proud son of Manipur while celebrating his courage and dedication to the nation.

Chingakham, who joined the BSF in April 2021, was the sole breadwinner for his family. His father, Chingakham Bonibihari Singh, expressed both grief and pride, stating, “We are really proud of his sacrifice. He served the nation with honour.”
His younger brother, Chingakham Naoba Singh, shared heartfelt memories, saying, “He always encouraged me to work hard. Now he’s gone, but his spirit will live on.”

Political leaders across party lines, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, BJP state president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, and Congress president Keisham Meghachandra, condoled the loss, hailing Chingakham’s bravery. The BSF also paid tribute, with the Director General and all ranks saluting his sacrifice.
In Jammu, a wreath-laying ceremony was held on Monday, attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Minister Satish Sharma. Sinha remarked, “I salute the brave son of Mother India, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.”
Chingakham’s martyrdom, alongside Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaz in the same incident, has underscored the sacrifices made by India’s armed forces amid heightened border tensions. His legacy as a dedicated soldier and a proud Manipuri-Meitei will continue to inspire the nation.
