IMPHAL- A mob set ablaze the vehicle of an IPS officer in Kwakeithel area in Imphal West on Tuesday, July 18, Police said so far 30 persons have been arrested and raids are on to nab others involved in the attack.
The mob set on fire the vehicle of Inspector General of Police, Zone II, K. Kabib when he was traveling towards Imphal on Tiddim Road accompanied by his escort team. It also added that a cop was hit by a bullet in one of his legs when it was fired from the burning vehicle.

Security forces used tear gas shells to disperse the mob and later arrested 30 attackers.
A press release issued by the Manipur Police Control Room strongly condemned the “dastardly attack” on the IG and his escort team.
The release appealed to the public to refrain from engaging in such anti-social acts, emphasizing that the Manipur Police would not tolerate such behavior. It also stated that efforts would continue to apprehend more individuals involved in the incident.

The release further emphasized that the police were working tirelessly to restore normalcy in the state and called upon the public to cooperate and abide by the instructions of the police authorities.
Urging the public not to obstruct the movement of security forces while they carry out their official duties, it warned that any deviation or obstruction would be met with legal action.
The release also provided information about other recent incidents.

A police statement, however, said that the situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing, arson and congregation of unruly mobs during the last 24 hours.
The security forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts and three arms and six various types of ammunition were recovered from Imphal East. One illegal bunker was also dismantled.
