Trinamool Congress delegation visit Violence-hit Manipur

Speaking to media at Imphal airport, Ms Dola Sen MP, Rajya Sabha said they are here to listen to both the affected communities of strife-torn Manipur.

IMPHAL-   A five-member Trinamool Congress delegation reached violence-hit Manipur on Wednesday, party leader Sushmita Dev said.

” We  will meet the affected people residing in relief camps in Churuchandpur & the Imphal valley. People are our priority, and we shall go above and beyond to support them”  Sushmita said.

Sushmita said TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee was among the first to seek permission from the government to allow her to visit the state.

“Manipur is being destroyed and the prime minister is silent,” she said.

Besides Dev, the other members of the fact-finding team are Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Kalyan Banerjee and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

A decision to send the delegation to Manipur was taken by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on July 10.

The decision came just about an hour after information surfaced that the BJP had decided to send a four-member fact finding team to West Bengal to review the large scale violence related to the panchayat elections.
