The BSF seized a huge consignment of Phensedyl on Wednesday evening from Indo-Bangladesh Border in Meghalaya.
Acting on a tip off on the evening of 28th Feb’2018, BSF deployed at Netri, South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya about suspected movement of Phensedyl meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh, carried out anti-smuggling operation.
A mobile check post was laid by the troops to nab the suspected smugglers. But as soon as the BSF troops come to know about unloading of some consignment before the place of Mobile Check Post, they rushed towards the suspected place. Seeing the Bordermen suspected smugglers fled from the spot. However BSF troops seized 950 btls of Phensedyl worth Rs. 1.21 lacs from the area. The Phensedyl was being smuggled to Bangladesh when the alert sentinels of border managed to seize it.
It is mentioned that the Phensedyl cough syrup is consumed in Bangladesh in large quantities, against the recommended small doses, to get a kick. With the consumption of alcohol prohibited in Bangladesh, Phensedyl addiction has been on the rise. Thus this drug is smuggled to Bangladesh to earn huge profit by the smugglers.
The Border Security Force has intensified its operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent such illegal transporting of drugs and liquor along International Border in Meghalaya by launching frequent ops.
The seized items handed over to the concerned department for further disposal.
