Mizoram’s foray into the international floriculture market comes at a time when India’s floriculture exports are gaining momentum. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, India exported floriculture products worth USD 86.62 million globally. The export of Anthuriums from Mizoram highlights the untapped potential of the northeastern states in contributing to this growing industry.

Anthuriums, often called “flamingo flowers,” thrive in Mizoram’s favorable climate, making the state an ideal hub for their cultivation. This initial consignment is expected to pave the way for increased agricultural trade, providing a boost to local farmers and cooperatives while showcasing the region’s horticultural capabilities on the global stage.

State officials expressed optimism about the future, with plans to expand the variety and volume of exports. The success of this venture underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between government bodies and local growers in promoting sustainable economic growth in Mizoram.

As the flowers reach Singapore, this export not only symbolizes a new chapter for Mizoram’s economy but also strengthens India’s position as a key player in the international floriculture market.
