Mizoram: Methamphetamine Worth ₹54 Crore Seized, One Arrested
The seized drugs, commonly known as Yaba or party tablets, were allegedly smuggled from Myanmar and intended for distribution in Bangladesh via a clandestine route.

AIZAWL- In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police led to the seizure of 17.946 kg of methamphetamine tablets, valued at approximately ₹54 crore, in Lawngtlai district on Saturday night. One individual, a Myanmarese national, was arrested in connection with the bust.
Acting on specific intelligence, the security forces intercepted the consignment at Siachangkawn, near Mizoram’s unfenced border with Bangladesh.

The operation underscores the persistent challenge of cross-border drug smuggling in the region, with Mizoram’s 510-km porous border with Myanmar serving as a key transit point.
The arrested individual has been handed over to Mizoram Police for further investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Authorities are probing potential links to larger trafficking networks. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma recently voiced concern over rising drug abuse in the state, urging stronger measures to protect the youth.
This seizure follows another significant operation on April 11, where the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated 52.67 kg of methamphetamine worth ₹52.67 crore near Aizawl, highlighting the intensified efforts to curb the drug menace in the Northeast.
