PM Modi Flags Off New Trains in Northeast

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched multiple railway projects and flagged off three trains to boost connectivity in the Northeast.

GUWAHATI-  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated and laid the foundation stone for several railway infrastructure projects worth ₹6,146 crore in Assam, aimed at strengthening connectivity across the Northeast region.

The Prime Minister virtually inaugurated the projects in Kokrajhar through video conferencing from Guwahati.

During the event, he flagged off the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, the Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express, and the Narangi–Agartala Express, which are expected to improve passenger connectivity in the region.

Modi said the new railway projects and train services would boost trade, tourism and accessibility for students and patients, while also helping regional economies by improving logistics and connectivity.

He also laid the foundation stone for a Wagon Periodic Overhaul (POH) Workshop at Bashbari in Kokrajhar, estimated at ₹256 crore, which is expected to strengthen railway maintenance infrastructure and generate employment opportunities.

The Prime Minister further dedicated three major railway electrification projects, including the Rangiya–Mukongselek (558 km), Chaparmukh–Dibrugarh (571 km), and Badarpur–Silchar & Badarpur–Churaibari (315 km) lines.

Additionally, the foundation stone for the Furkating–Tinsukia double line project (194 km) was laid.

Officials said the projects, costing around ₹5,890 crore, will enhance railway infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and promote economic development in Assam and the wider Northeast region.
