Manipur: PM Modi Lays Foundation Stones for Projects Worth ₹7,300 Crore in Churachandpur
He described Manipur as a “jewel” of the Northeast that will shine even brighter with rapid development.

CHURACHANDPUR – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over ₹7,300 crore in Churachandpur, Manipur, assuring the people that the government is committed to making the state a “symbol of peace, prosperity, and progress.”
Addressing a massive gathering, the Prime Minister saluted the courage and determination of the people of Manipur, calling the state’s hills a “priceless gift of nature” that symbolize hard work and resilience. He described Manipur as a “jewel” of the Northeast that will shine even brighter with rapid development.

Highlighting the government’s focus on connectivity, PM Modi said road and rail projects are being implemented at unprecedented speed. He noted that ₹3,700 crore has already been spent on National Highways in recent years, while new projects worth ₹8,700 crore are under progress. The ambitious Jiribam–Imphal railway line, with an investment of ₹22,000 crore, will soon link the capital city to the national rail network, while the newly constructed Imphal Airport and helicopter services are further strengthening air connectivity.
On social infrastructure, the Prime Minister pointed out that for the first time, a medical college has been set up in Churachandpur, ensuring improved healthcare access. He highlighted major welfare gains under central schemes:
- Nearly 60,000 pucca houses have been built for poor families.
- Over 1 lakh families now have electricity connections.
- 3.5 lakh households enjoy tap water under Har Ghar Jal.
- 2.5 lakh patients have availed free treatment under Ayushman Bharat.
PM Modi said these initiatives are easing the struggles of tribal and hill communities while creating employment opportunities for youth.
Addressing the issue of peace and reconciliation, he acknowledged the challenges of violence but expressed optimism: “A new dawn of hope and trust is rising in Manipur.” He stressed that development cannot progress without peace and called upon all organizations to embrace dialogue and harmony.
The Prime Minister also announced a special package of ₹3,000 crore, including ₹500 crore for displaced families, and said 7,000 new houses would be built for those affected by violence. He assured that the government will stand with Manipur in resettlement and rebuilding efforts.
Emphasizing tribal development, he said the Dharati Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan is being implemented in more than 500 villages, and 18 new Eklavya Model Schools are coming up in the state. Women empowerment projects, including working women’s hostels at nine locations, are also being established.
Concluding his address, PM Modi reiterated: “We are working with the goal of making Manipur a symbol of peace, prosperity, and progress. The Government of India will stand with Manipur every step of the way.”
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
