PM Modi: Sikkim Must Become the World’s Green Tourism and Wellness Hub
PM Modi emphasized Sikkim’s potential to become a global tourism hub, evolving beyond its identity as a hill station.

GANGTOK- Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the golden jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood, marking 50 years since the northeastern state became part of the Indian Union in 1975.
Themed “Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose, and Nature Nurtures Growth,” the event highlighted Sikkim’s achievements in sustainable development, cultural preservation, and infrastructure growth.
In his address, PM Modi emphasized Sikkim’s potential to become a global tourism hub, evolving beyond its identity as a hill station. “Sikkim offers a complete tourism package—from spiritual experiences and adventure sports to ecological wonders like Kanchenjunga National Park,” he said.

He announced plans to boost conference, wellness, and concert tourism, underlining the importance of new infrastructure like the Golden Jubilee Convention Center and Atal Amrit Udyan, which now features a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for a ₹750-crore 500-bedded District Hospital in Namchi, and inaugurated a passenger ropeway in Sangachoeling, Gyalshing. A commemorative coin, souvenir coin, and postage stamp were released to mark the occasion.

Highlighting India’s rising global stature, PM Modi noted Sikkim’s role in attracting major investments during the Northeast Investment Summit, as well as its participation in G-20 outreach efforts. He lauded the state’s focus on organic farming, tourism-based entrepreneurship, and youth skill development.
Addressing national unity, the Prime Minister condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, calling it an “attack on humanity.” He praised Operation Sindoor for showcasing India’s military strength and strategic response.

In a forward-looking message, PM Modi urged citizens to plan ambitiously for Sikkim@75 in 2047, envisioning the state as a global Green Model, powered by solar energy, agro-startups, and global-ready youth.
“The next 25 years are dedicated to securing Sikkim’s place on the global stage as a symbol of sustainability, wellness, and youth-driven innovation,” he said.
