GUWAHATI/ DIBRUGARH- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on February 14, 2026, where he will inaugurate and flag off development projects worth more than ₹5,450 crore, alongside key defence and infrastructure initiatives aimed at strengthening connectivity and digital capacity in the Northeast.
The Prime Minister is expected to land at around 10:30 AM at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) located on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district. The ELF, described as the first highway-based landing facility of its kind in Northeast India, has been developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force and is designed as a dual-use infrastructure capable of supporting both military and civilian aircraft during emergencies. Officials say the facility can handle fighter aircraft weighing up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 74 tonnes. An aerial display featuring fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters is also scheduled during the visit.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Guwahati, where he will visit the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a six-lane extradosed prestressed concrete bridge across the Brahmaputra River built at an estimated cost of ₹3,030 crore. The bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati to about seven minutes. Engineers have incorporated seismic-resilient features such as base isolation technology and friction pendulum bearings, along with a Bridge Health Monitoring System for real-time structural assessment.

At Lachit Ghat, Modi will inaugurate multiple projects focused on connectivity, higher education and digital infrastructure. Among them is the National Data Centre for the North-Eastern Region at Amingaon in Kamrup district. The facility, with a sanctioned load of 8.5 MW, is expected to host mission-critical government applications and serve as a disaster recovery centre, contributing to the region’s digital infrastructure under the Digital India initiative.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, which officials say is aimed at strengthening higher education and management training opportunities in the Northeast. Observers note that expanding premier educational institutions in the region reflects a broader policy push to improve academic access and retain talent locally.
In addition, Modi is scheduled to flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme across multiple cities, including 100 buses in Guwahati. Authorities say the initiative is intended to promote cleaner urban mobility while improving public transport access for millions of citizens.
Officials describe the visit as part of a larger strategy to enhance strategic infrastructure, digital services, and sustainable urban transport in the Northeast. Analysts note that projects combining defence preparedness with civilian development highlight the region’s growing importance in India’s infrastructure and security planning.
