Shrinate, Gogoi Join Assam Youth Congress Padyatra
Senior Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate and Gaurav Gogoi joined the Assam Youth Congress padyatra as it moved through upper Assam, highlighting land rights and constitutional safeguard

GUWAHATI- The Assam Youth Congress’s statewide padyatra under the slogan “Jati Bosaok, Mati Bosaok” (Save Community, Save Land) continued through upper Assam over the past two days, with senior Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate and Gaurav Gogoi joining different legs of the march and voicing support for land rights, constitutional values and indigenous safeguards.
The padyatra is scheduled to pass through Lakhimpur, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia between January 4 and January 9, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
Leaders of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress said the objective of the march is to connect directly with rural and urban communities on issues related to land protection, unemployment and what they describe as the erosion of indigenous identity, while encouraging greater youth participation in political processes.

Congress spokesperson and national leader Supriya Shrinate joined the padyatra in Majuli, walking alongside Youth Congress workers and interacting with local residents and party cadres. Her participation highlighted the party’s attempt to frame land-related concerns and the protection of tribal belts and blocks as issues of constitutional justice and federal responsibility rather than isolated local grievances. Addressing gatherings along the route, Shrinate is reported to have stated that displacement from traditional lands undermines both Assam’s cultural fabric and broader constitutional values.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi also joined the march in districts including Jorhat and Sivasagar, adding organisational support and regional leadership to the campaign. Walking with Youth Congress volunteers, Gogoi reiterated that the padyatra represents a commitment to defending land rights, constitutional safeguards and the demographic balance underpinning indigenous communities.

According to the itinerary shared by the party, the yatra will continue through Sivasagar and Dibrugarh before concluding in Tinsukia on January 9. Corner meetings, street interactions and small conventions are planned at multiple locations along the route.
Youth Congress leaders said they are documenting testimonies related to land loss, alleged encroachment and concerns over policy changes, which will be compiled into a memorandum to be submitted at the conclusion of the march.
The party maintains that the padyatra is intended as a listening exercise as much as a mobilisation effort, providing a platform for villagers, tea garden workers, students and unemployed youth to articulate their concerns directly to state and national leaders.
