Sikkim: PM Modi Holds Roadshow in Gangtok
Prime Minister receives enthusiastic reception in Gangtok ahead of Statehood Day celebrations and major project launches.

GANGTOK- Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm public reception during a roadshow in Gangtok on Monday as part of his two-day visit to Sikkim, marking the state’s 50th year of statehood celebrations.
Crowds lined the streets of the capital city as the Prime Minister’s convoy passed through, with residents welcoming him ahead of key engagements scheduled during the visit. In a post on X, Modi described the reception as “very special” and expressed gratitude for the affection shown by the people.
The visit coincides with the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee Statehood celebrations. On Tuesday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the main event at Paljor Stadium, where he will inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore.

The projects span key sectors including infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, tourism, and environmental sustainability, aimed at boosting holistic development in the state.
In the healthcare sector, plans include the foundation stone for a 100-bedded Ayurveda hospital in Yangang and the inauguration of an Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital at NIT Deorali. Educational initiatives include the inauguration of the permanent campus of Sikkim University and other institutional infrastructure.

Connectivity projects feature new bridges over the Teesta River and upgraded road links, while urban development initiatives include administrative infrastructure and housing projects. Environmental and tourism-focused initiatives are also part of the programme.
Officials said the visit underscores the Centre’s focus on expanding development in northeastern states while celebrating Sikkim’s journey since attaining statehood.
