The allegations surfaced when the minor confided in her guardian about the misconduct perpetrated by the computer teacher and a non-teaching staff member.
According to the daily situation report issued by the Sikkim Police, the student reported multiple instances of inappropriate conduct. One of the accused had allegedly sent her unwanted messages via social media, further escalating the severity of the situation.
The student had previously sought help by reporting the issue to a female teacher at the school. However, instead of taking action, the female teacher reportedly advised the girl not to disclose the incidents, potentially exacerbating the situation by delaying intervention.

Following the student’s disclosure to her guardian, a formal complaint was lodged, prompting swift action from the authorities. The Sikkim Police arrested the two accused individuals, and two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused are currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
In response to the allegations, the minor underwent a medical examination to ensure her well-being and to gather evidence, with all legal protocols being meticulously followed. Additionally, the girl was presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to provide her with further support and protection. These steps underscore the authorities’ commitment to addressing the case with sensitivity and urgency, prioritizing the victim’s safety and rights.

The police have also issued a notice to the female teacher who allegedly discouraged the student from reporting the misconduct, signaling that further investigation into her role is underway. This aspect of the case highlights potential systemic issues within the school, including a failure to foster a safe environment where students feel empowered to report abuse without fear of reprisal.
The Pakyong case has sparked outrage among local communities and brought renewed attention to the need for stringent safeguards in schools. It emphasizes the critical importance of training educators and staff to recognize and respond to signs of misconduct, as well as the necessity of fostering an environment where students can report such incidents without hesitation or fear of being silenced.
As of April 9, 2025, the investigation remains ongoing, with the accused in custody and authorities working to uncover the full extent of the misconduct. The involvement of the Child Welfare Committee ensures that the victim receives counseling and support during this traumatic period. The case also serves as a reminder of the legal protections afforded under the POCSO Act, which aims to safeguard children from sexual offenses and hold perpetrators accountable.
