Sikkim: CM Prem Singh Tamang Inaugurates First Chief Minister Model School at Assam Lingzey

In his address, the Chief Minister praised the launch of CMMS as a major milestone in the state's education sector.

PAKYONG- Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay officially inaugurated the state’s first Chief Minister Model School (CMMS) at Assam Lingzey today. The event was attended by key ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, DC and SP Pakyong, education officials, and other dignitaries.

In his address, the Chief Minister praised the launch of CMMS as a major milestone in the state’s education sector. Designed to provide high-quality education with cutting-edge facilities, the school is set to have top-tier faculty and innovative teaching resources. He urged students to make the most of this opportunity and encouraged parents to support the school’s ethos and discipline.

Highlighting educational reforms, the CM spoke about major student support schemes like the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship Scheme, APATAN Fellowship Scheme, and the Chief Minister’s Education Assistance Scheme. He also announced that the CMMS Scholarship Scheme will now support students through school and into college.

The event included the unveiling of the “Knowledge Pillar,” a tour of the campus, and interactions with students. Minister Raju Basnett praised the initiative, calling it transformative for students and families. Chief Secretary R. Telang emphasized the school’s potential to empower students under the New Education Policy 2025, which promotes holistic growth beyond academics.

Secretary of School Education, Mr. Tashi Chophel, stated that students have been enrolled under the CMMS 2025 Scholarship, focusing on developing critical thinking and leadership. Director Col. Ujjwal Khatiwada underlined the school’s vision of character-building and social responsibility.

The event also saw cultural performances, the launch of the school’s website and anthem, and recognition of the top ten students, who secured admission to Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior, under the CMMS scholarship program.
