Ankita Bhandari murder case.— In a dramatic and emotional appeal for justice, two sisters from Almora district in Uttarakhand have written a letter in their own blood to the President of India, urging intervention in the widely-covered Ankita Bhandari murder case. Copy of the letter went viral in social media.

The sisters — penned the letter as a symbolic protest over what they describe as prolonged delays and perceived injustice in the investigation into the 2022 murder of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari. In the letter, they demanded a CBI probe and accountability for any influential person (“VIP”) allegedly connected with the case, asking pointedly whether powerful individuals are being protected from prosecution.

Their appeal — routed through official administrative channels to reach Rashtrapati Bhavan — reflects deep public frustration over the pace and transparency of the ongoing legal process, and has reverberated amid renewed protests across the state.

The Ankita Bhandari case first drew national attention after the 19-year-old receptionist disappeared in September 2022 from the Vanantra Resort near Rishikesh. Her body was later recovered, and three accused — including resort owner Pulkit Arya — were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in May 2025.

However, controversy and public pressure resurfaced recently with viral videos and claims suggesting involvement of an unnamed “VIP,” prompting renewed calls for a deeper investigation. While the Uttarakhand police have denied that any influential person was directly linked to the crime, stating the person cited in online posts was a non-VIP visitor, protesters and activists continue to demand a CBI inquiry and greater transparency.

The sisters’ appeal comes amid ongoing statewide agitation, including rallies and demonstrations in Dehradun and other cities, as citizens insist that justice must be both done and seen to be done.
