AIZAWL: 252 Jews from Mizoram, who call themselves “Bnei Menashe” or the “Children of Manasseh,” landed at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv ( Israel) from New Delhi on Tuesday to permanently migrate to the Promised Land after being formally converted to Judaism, said a report .
It was an emotional morning at Ben Gurion Airport today, as 252 members of the Bnei Menashe Jewish community of India arrived in Israel as new Olim, after many years of waiting to make Aliyah, stated Ministry of Aliyah and Integration in it’s post.
Hailing from North-East India, the Bnei Menashe community has preserved the Jewish tradition across generations.
Their Aliyah is the result of a government decision that was promoted by the Minister of Aliyah and Integration, MK Pnina Tameno-Shete, with the support of the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Baruch Lau, Minister of the Interior, MK Aryeh Machluf Deri, and the Foreign Minister, MK Gabi Ashkenazi. Today’s Aliyah follows months of preparation spearheaded by the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration in cooperation with the Shavei Israel organization, mentioned in the post.
