Mizoram: Christmas Market Brings Festive Cheer to Mizoram

Mizoram transforms into a festive Christmas market with lights, music, food stalls and local crafts, drawing families, tourists and small entrepreneurs together.

AIZAWL-  The Mizoram’s main towns turned into a festive hub this weekend as the annual Christmas market opened to the public, welcoming residents and visitors with strings of lights, decorated stalls and the sound of carols in the winter air.

Shops organised in the run-up to Christmas, the market aims to provide a lively public space for families to celebrate the season while supporting local artisans, home-based entrepreneurs and small food businesses.

Dozens of stalls lined the venue, offering a mix of traditional and contemporary products ranging from handcrafted ornaments, candles and knitted woollens to locally produced bakery items, chocolates and hot beverages.

Many stallholders reported brisk footfall through the day, with parents shopping for gifts and decorations while children took part in games, art corners and photo spots around the Christmas tree and nativity-themed installations.

For several vendors, the market provides an important year-end boost, allowing them to reach new customers face to face rather than only through online or word-of-mouth networks.

For organisers, the strong turnout is an indication that community-centred events can combine celebration with livelihood support, and plans are already being discussed to expand the market with more stalls, inclusive activities and greener practices such as reduced plastic use in future editions.
