Congress Releases 2nd List for Assam Polls
The Congress released its second list of 23 candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, taking the total number of declared nominees to 65.

GUWAHATI- The Indian National Congress on Saturday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, announcing 23 nominees for different constituencies across the state.
With the latest announcement, the party has now declared candidates for 65 out of the total 126 assembly constituencies in Assam.
According to the list, former Member of Parliament Abdul Khaleque has been fielded from Mandia. Kartik Chandra Ray will contest from Golakganj, while Wazed Ali Choudhury has been nominated from Birsing Jarua. Amrit Badsha has been named the candidate from Bilasipara and Mohibur Rohman from Mankachar.
The party has also nominated Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam from Goalpara East and Kishor Kumar Brahma from Dudhnoi (ST). Nurul Islam will contest from Srijangram, Rakibuddin Ahmed from Chamaria and Pranjit Choudhury from Rangia.

Other candidates announced in the second list include Kishore Kumar Baruah from Dimoria (SC) and Santanu Borah from New Guwahati.
The party has also named Rijumoni Talukdar from Mangaldai, Jhilli Choudhury from Hojai, Batash Urang from Dhekiajuli and Kartik Chandra Kurmi from Rangapara. Dr Sankar Jyoti Kutum will contest from Gohpur, while Sailen Sonowal has been fielded from Dhemaji (ST).
Further nominations include Devid Phukan from Tinsukia, Bipul Gogoi from Tingkhong, Sagorika Bora from Dergaon and Dhrubjyoti Purkayastha from Dholai (SC). Aminur Rashid Choudhury has been nominated from Karimganj South.


The party said that 15 constituencies, including Bhowanipur-Sorbhoog, Bajali, Palasbari, Guwahati Central, Goreswar, Morigaon and Barhampur, have been kept aside for alliance partners.
Earlier, on March 3, the party’s Central Election Committee had announced the first list of 42 candidates for the elections.
Among those named earlier were Gaurav Gogoi from Jorhat, Bitupan Saikia from Golaghat, Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar from Gauripur, Markline Marak from Goalpara West (ST), Girish Baruah from Bongaigaon and Mahananda Sarkar from Barpeta (SC).
Other candidates in the first list include Ramen Singh Rabha from Boko-Chaygaon (ST), Satyabrat Kalita from Kamalpur, Ripun Bora from Barchalla, Mira Borthakur Goswami from Dispur, Diganta Barman from Barkhetri and Uptal Gogoi from Sonari.
Several women leaders have also been nominated by the party, including Nandita Das from Hajo-Sualkuchi (SC), Pallabi Saikia Gogoi from Teok and Suruchi Roy from Ram Krishna Nagar (SC).
The assembly elections in Assam are expected to take place in the first half of 2026, with the main contest likely between the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Congress.
