The incident occurred at around 8 am, when a portion of a nearby hill reportedly collapsed and fell onto the house, trapping the family members beneath the debris.

The deceased have been identified as Nagen Rajbongshi, 44, his wife Sanu Rajbongshi, 38, and their 12-year-old daughter, Meena Rajbongshi. Their 19-year-old son, Biplab Rajbongshi, was rescued alive from the debris and is undergoing treatment, police said.

Security teams from the district disaster management department recovered the bodies, which were subsequently sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for postmortem.

Heavy Rain Suspected to Have Triggered Landslide

The landslide is suspected to have been triggered by incessant rainfall in Guwahati since Monday night. Local residents said soil from the hilltop collapsed onto the house.

The tragedy comes as several parts of Guwahati continue to face the impact of heavy rainfall, with low-lying areas reported to be submerged.

Local residents said Nagen Rajbongshi worked as a daily-wage labourer and that the family had been living in the area with their two children for several years.

Woman Killed in Separate Guwahati Landslide

In another landslide incident in Guwahati on Tuesday, a 65-year-old woman from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was killed after a large boulder rolled down a hillside and crashed into a house in the Satgaon area.

The victim was identified as P. Sumitra, who had travelled to Guwahati with her husband to visit their son and daughter-in-law.

Her son P. Ramanna, daughter-in-law P. Lakshmi, and another family member sustained serious injuries and were admitted to GMCH, officials said.

Sumitra’s husband, P. Demru, and her 17-year-old grandson, P. Mahesh, escaped unharmed.

The incident occurred in the Taltala locality of Satgaon, where officials said a massive boulder came down from a nearby hillside and struck the house.

The two incidents have highlighted the immediate risks posed by heavy rainfall and unstable hill slopes in Guwahati, particularly in areas where homes are located close to hill terrain. Rescue and assessment efforts are continuing as the city remains affected by persistent rain.
