Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Key Infrastructure Projects with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

NEW DELHI– In a crucial meeting aimed at accelerating infrastructure development in Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to review the progress of several key national highway projects in the state.
Held at the official residence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi, the meeting focused on ensuring timely completion of ongoing infrastructure projects that are poised to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth in Assam and the wider Northeast region.

Key Discussion Points:
- Review of Flagship NH Projects: The Chief Minister urged the Union Minister for support and cooperation from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to ensure that these critical projects are completed on schedule.
- Significance for the Region: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured the Chief Minister of the Ministry’s unwavering focus on the timely execution of these projects, stating that these roads would significantly boost trade routes, connectivity, and overall economic development in the Northeast.

The Union Minister reaffirmed that the successful completion of these projects is a priority. Speaking to the media and his followers, Gadkari highlighted that these National Highway projects are vital for regional connectivity and will play an important role in fostering long-term growth in the Northeast.

Support from MoRTH:
The meeting also featured discussions on how the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways can provide continued support to Assam’s infrastructure development, ensuring the completion of these major projects in a time-bound manner.
Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, was also present at the meeting, along with Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. KK Dwivedi, and senior officials from MoRTH.
Other Meetings:
Later in the day, the Chief Minister met with a delegation from ICICI Foundation and ICICI Bank at his official residence, where they discussed ongoing CSR initiatives in Assam. The focus was on expanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, particularly in collaboration with the Government of Assam, and improving credit access for micro-borrowers.
Additionally, Jayesh Saini, Chairman of LifeCare Ltd., a Kenya-based company, visited Dr. Sarma to discuss the company’s expansion into the health sector in Assam. LifeCare Ltd. had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in February 2025, and Saini provided an update on the company’s ongoing projects in the region.
