Assam CM meets Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways; reviews Guwahati Ring Road, NH projects
In the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on the ongoing National Highway projects, including the Guwahati Ring Road.
NEW DELHI- Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Nitin Gadkari at his office and discussed a number of ongoing National Highway projects in Assam.
In the meeting attended by senior officials from MoRTH and Government of Assam, threadbare discussions were held on the ongoing National Highway projects, including the Guwahati Ring Road.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) the Union Minister wrote,
“Discussed the ongoing National Highway projects, including the Guwahati Ring Road, with Assam Chief Minister Shri @himantabiswa Ji and senior officials in Delhi today.”
Acknowledging the unwavering support from Gadkari in hastening priority infrastructure projects in the state, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma also wrote on X, “Happy to share! Just concluded an excellent meeting with Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @nitin_gadkari Ji. I am truly impressed by the unwavering support from @MORTHIndia in expediting priority infrastructure projects in Assam, ensuring they are completed on time.”
Highlighting the key decisions taken in the meeting, Dr.Sarma posted, “Timely commencement of construction for Assam’s three flagship infrastructure projects – Guwahati Ring Road, Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh; accelerated progress on the Jorhat-Dibrugarh stretch of the National Highway, following our earlier feedback; review of the double laning of the Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali Highway.”
It may be mentioned that in the last review meeting held in the national capital on October 22, several National Highway projects came up for discussions, including the 121-km Guwahati Ring Road, the Kaziranga elevated corridor, the stretch of four-lane National Highway 37 from Jorhat to Dibrugarh and the Majuli bridge connecting Kamalabari and Nimatighat over the Brahmaputra.

A meeting was held on October 2 at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways with all stakeholders regarding the construction of the bridge connecting Majuli and Jorhat. All pertinent aspects regarding the tardy progress of the work were discussed threadbare.
It was decided that the existing contractor would be replaced and the process to identify a new contractor would begin on a priority basis, and that the performance guarantee of the outgoing contractor would be forfeited as given agreed timelines were not met.
Acknowledging the decisive decisions taken by Gadkari to put the Majuli bridge project on a fast track, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma wrote on X, “Gratitude to @MORTHIndia for taking cognisance of the matter. We appreciate the effort being undertaken and hope timelines are met at the soonest for this critical project.”
The Chief Minister met Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda and invited him to attend the Advantage Assam Summit 2025.
