Assam: Row over toilet in Hailakandi, Construction stop after clash
Hailakandi
Following a row triggered by the construction of a toilet in the vicinity of SK Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi town, in Assam , the district administration stepped in to stop the construction.
Deputy Commissioner, Adil Khan stalled the construction of the pay-and-use toilet being executed by the State Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).
As trouble began to brew over the construction of the toilet close to the life size statue of Santosh Kumar Roy, a former MLA and father of former Minister Gautam Roy, the PHED stopped the execution of the work forthwith on May 14.
However, after a lull of two days, trouble erupted leading to scuffle between the members of the warring political parties at the construction site on May 16. Deputy Commissioner Khan ordered an immediate halt to the construction work to prevent the situation from snowballing into a major law and order problem.
The Deputy Commissioner while warning said no one is above law and the administration would take punitive action if anyone takes law into one’s hands.
