IMPHAL- In a major crackdown operation in strife-hit Manipur, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives, including sophisticated weapons, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and grenades from various locations across the state.
The coordinated operation, led by a joint team of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police, was carried out over the last 48 hours in suspected militant hideouts across Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur districts.

According to official sources, the recoveries include:
- 30 assault rifles (including AK-series and INSAS)
- 2000+ rounds of live ammunition
- Dozens of hand grenades
- IED-making materials including detonators, wires, and pressure switches
- Sniper scopes, walkie-talkies, and bulletproof vests
The recoveries were made from bunkers, abandoned houses, and forested areas that were being used as temporary weapon caches by suspected insurgent groups. The crackdown follows intelligence reports indicating planned disruptions by armed groups in sensitive zones amid the ongoing ethnic unrest in the region.

Security personnel also discovered maps and documents pointing to coordinated attacks that were likely being planned in the near future.
A senior army official stated, “This is one of the largest recoveries in recent months. The operation was swift and intelligence-driven. It has prevented potential violence and saved many innocent lives.”
Manipur Police officials said that further forensic investigation will be conducted to trace the origin of the weapons and link them to recent incidents of violence in the valley and hill districts.

Meanwhile, the Manipur government has reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in the region. A high-level security meeting was reportedly convened in Imphal following the crackdown to reassess the law-and-order situation and reinforce vulnerable zones.
Manipur has been reeling under ethnic tension and violence for over a year, with sporadic clashes between armed groups, incidents of looting from police armories, and rising insecurity among civilians. Since May 2023, hundreds of weapons have gone missing and remain untraced, raising concerns over militarization of civil conflict.
Authorities have stepped up recovery operations in recent months, calling upon the public to voluntarily surrender arms and ensuring strict vigil in disturbed areas.
