Viral Video- Heartbreaking Viral Video of Elderly Latur Farmer Couple Sparks Nationwide Outcry

In the emotionally stirring video, the elderly couple works with painstaking determination.

LATUR ( Maharashtra ) A deeply moving video from Hadolti village in Latur district has gone viral on social media, capturing the harsh reality faced by small-scale farmers.

The footage shows 75-year-old Ambadas Pawar and his wife Muktabai manually ploughing their 2.5-acre plot—with Ambadas bearing the yoke and Muktabai guiding the wooden plough—because they are unable to afford oxen, a tractor, or hired labor

In the emotionally stirring video, the elderly couple works with painstaking determination. Ambadas, visibly strained, is seen pulling the plough while his wife Mudtabai walks behind on their parched, hard soil—an image that starkly underlines the absence of basic agricultural support even in today’s technologically advanced era.

According to Ambadas, the couple sold their oxen a decade ago due to the high upkeep costs. Forced to till manually, they have also taken on a ₹40,000 bank loan, which they repay yearly with little to show for their labor. The husband and wife rely on income from soybeans, but with seed costs rising above ₹3,000 per sack and fertilizers nearing ₹1,500, their meager earnings of around ₹4,000 per bag barely cover expenses .

The video has sparked widespread concern. Bollywood actor Sonu Sood responded to the clip, promising help by saying, “मी बैल पाठवतो!” (“I’ll send some oxen!”), an offer that garnered public praise for its sincerity

Latur’s district agriculture officer and state officials have reached out to Ambadas since the video surfaced. Local authorities have committed to providing support through government farming schemes, loan relief, and better access to machinery.

Advocates have used the video as a rallying call to address systemic issues—including rural credit access, affordable mechanization, and climate-resilient infrastructure. The story has reignited the debate about government accountability in ensuring the welfare of India’s agricultural backbone.
