IMPHAL- Two persons belonging to the Kuki-Zo tribe were shot dead in Kangpokpi district on Monday at around 10 am. The Committee on Tribal Unity unanimously declared an emergency shutdown in Kangpokpi district .
In an emergency meeting held at Kanggui today, The Committee on Tribal Unity ( CoTU ) strongly condemned the unprovoked attack at Haraothel and Kobsha village of Kangpokpi district, by the war mongering Meitei insurgents.

In the attack, two innocent Kuki-Zo villagers, namely, Henminlen Vaiphei, son of Luntinlal Vaiphei, Mission Veng Leimakhong and Thangminlun Hangshing, son of Lunkhongam Hangshing, Khunkho village were brutally killed.
The Committee on Tribal Unity unanimously declared an emergency shutdown in Kangpokpi district to convey to the Union Government that we are no longer safe under the Manipur Government. Press, emergencies and CoTU units will be exempted from the shutdown.

The Kangpokpi district Kuki-Zo civil body pointed out “if the repeated appeals of the Kuki-Zo community had been heard by the Union Home Ministry, series of unfortunate incident could have been avoided.

It further said the Union Home Ministry must take into account the continuous attacks and that political separation is the only option left now.
The emergency meeting calls for an early materialisation of the demand for “separation from Manipur,” CoTU added.
