Manipur Violence: 67,000 displaced by ethnic conflict in Manipur, says report

According to the report of the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center of Geneva, this is the largest population displaced due to conflict and violence in India since 2018.

Manipur Violence: Many people lost their lives due to the violence in Manipur in the year 2023. However, now a report has come out regarding the violence in Manipur. Shocking information about the displaced people has been given in this report. Due to Manipur violence, 67 thousand people had to leave their homes.

A global report released by  Geneva’s Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC) said that in the year 2023, about 69,000 people were displaced in South Asia due to violence, out of which 67,000 people were displaced in Manipur alone. And More than 200 people lost their lives in this ethnic violence .

The report pointed out that protests over the Manipur high court order in March for sending recommendations to the Union govt to recognise the Meitei community as a Scheduled Tribe, turned violent in Churachandpur district on May 3, 2023, and the violence spread to other districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Tengnupal and Kangpokpi.

According to the report of the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center of Geneva, this is the largest population displaced due to conflict and violence in India since 2018.
