Meghalaya: 7 injured in lightning strike in Umsohlait Village of Ri Bhoi dist

SHILLONG- At least seven persons including three children were injured when lightning struck a house at Umsohlait village under Ri Bhoi District.
In Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district, a house was completely burnt to ashes due to lightning. Seven members including children and women were injured in the fire in the house. A seriously burnt child was admitted to Nazareth Hospital in Shillong in an unconscious state. His condition is said to be serious.

It was told that it was raining heavily in the area since last night. Lightning struck Christina Mynsong’s house in Umsohlait village of Ri-Bhoi district in the early hours of Tuesday. At that time all the people of the house were sleeping.
Christina’s house caught fire due to lightning. In a hurry, all the people were taken out of the house, but seven people got scorched. All injured people were taken to Nazareth Hospital in Shillong on Tuesday morning.
However, four people were discharged after first aid. Mother Christina Minsong and her son were admitted to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness. Due to the serious condition of the child, he has been admitted to the ICU.
It is worth mentioning that earlier on June 21, two people had died due to lightning in Mawdon and Maukham villages of Mawsynram in the state.

The injured persons are Driamizaca Shadap (4), Banraplang Khongsam (5), Kyrshanborlang Mynsong (11), Banaibor Lyngdoh (20), Johnsing Lynshing (29), Martha Shadap (55), and Kristina Mynsong, who is the owner of the house.
The house, which was completely reduced to ashes, was situated at Dong Kimheh. Sources said all the injured persons were first taken to Mawhati PHC, but to the grievous injuries they have been admitted to a city hospital in Shillong.
Properties and assets loss was estimated is around Rs. 3 lakhs, the village headman said.
