Mizoram CM Lalduhoma Visits Flood-Hit Serchhip, Assures Support for Affected Communities

AIZAWL-  Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, also the MLA for Serchhip, conducted an extensive visit to the flood and landslide-affected areas of Serchhip district on Thursday, June 5, to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rainfall.

The torrential rains, which battered the region over the past several days, triggered widespread landslides, mudslides, and flash floods, disrupting normal life and causing significant damage to infrastructure and homes.

The Chief Minister began his visit at the Serchhip DC Meeting Hall, where he held discussions with district officials and local community leaders. During the meeting, Lalduhoma expressed his condolences for the loss of lives and property due to the natural disasters.

He commended the ongoing relief efforts and assured the affected families of the state government’s full support in their recovery. “We are committed to standing by our people in this time of crisis and ensuring that all necessary assistance reaches those in need,” he stated.

Accompanied by local officials, Lalduhoma toured several affected areas in and around Serchhip town, including Buangpui and Thenzawl. At Buangpui Community Hall, he met with community leaders to discuss the immediate needs of the affected residents and inspected damaged sites to gauge the extent of the destruction.

The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite relief measures and ensure that aid, including financial assistance and essential supplies, is promptly delivered to those impacted.

The heavy rainfall, part of a broader weather system affecting Northeast India, has led to significant challenges in Serchhip and other districts of Mizoram. According to reports, at least five lives have been lost in Mizoram due to floods and landslides, with Serchhip being among the hardest-hit areas.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert for Mizoram, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, which contributed to the severity of the situation.

Lalduhoma’s visit underscores the state government’s proactive approach to disaster management. He praised the resilience of the local communities and the efforts of rescue teams, emphasizing the need for coordinated action to mitigate the impact of such calamities.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of long-term measures to address the recurring issue of landslides and flooding in the state’s hilly terrain.

Lalduhoma assured residents that the government is working closely with local authorities to restore normalcy and provide rehabilitation support. The state administration is also coordinating with central agencies to secure additional funds for relief and recovery efforts.

As Mizoram grapples with the aftermath of these natural disasters, the Chief Minister’s hands-on approach has been widely appreciated by residents and local leaders.
