Mizoram: former Superintendent of Excise and Narcotics gets 5-year jail
AIZAWL- A Special Court (Prevention of Corruption Act) in Aizawl district on Monday sentenced Rongura, former superintendent of excise and narcotics, Serchhip district, to five years in prison and fined him Rs 1.8 crore, while former assistant accounts officer of Serchhip treasury, Suakngura, was sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The former was convicted on Friday for misappropriation of money to the tune of over Rs 1.73 crore, while the latter was convicted on the same day for taking a bribe of Rs 41,000 and helping the former to swindle almost Rs 2 crore.

Rongura was sentenced under Section 420 read with 120B of IPC to undergo 5 years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs 60 lakh, in default, another imprisonment of 30 years. He was also sentenced under Section 477A read with 120B of IPC to undergo five years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs 60 lakh, in default, another imprisonment of 30 years, special judge HTC Lalrinchhana said.
Lalrinchhana also sentenced Rongura under Section 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (c) & (d) of PC Act, 1988, read with 120B of IPC to undergo five 5 years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs 60 lakh, in default, another imprisonment of 30 years.
