PM Modi Inaugurates and Lays Foundation Stones for Projects Worth Rs 9,000 Crore in Mizoram
The day’s biggest highlight was the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang New Rail Line, worth over ₹8,070 crore, connecting Mizoram’s capital to the Indian Railways network for the first time.

AIZAWL- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in Mizoram, marking what he described as a “historic day” for the people of the state and the nation.
The day’s biggest highlight was the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang New Rail Line, worth over ₹8,070 crore, connecting Mizoram’s capital to the Indian Railways network for the first time.
The Prime Minister also flagged off three new trains — Sairang-Delhi Rajdhani Express, Sairang-Guwahati Express, and Sairang-Kolkata Express — calling the connectivity a “lifeline of transformation” that will boost trade, education, healthcare, and tourism.
Among other projects, PM Modi laid foundation stones for key road infrastructure works including the Aizawl Bypass Road, Thenzawl–Sialsuk Road, and Khankawn–Rongura Road, along with the Chhimtuipui River Bridge. These projects are expected to ease travel, strengthen agricultural supply chains, and support cross-border commerce under the Kaladan Multimodal Transit framework.
In sports and education, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Hall at Tuikual and inaugurated new residential schools at Kawrthah and Tlangnuam. He emphasized the government’s mission to empower Mizoram’s youth through quality education and modern facilities.
Further boosting energy infrastructure, PM Modi announced a new LPG Bottling Plant at Mualkhang, aimed at ensuring clean cooking fuel supply to Mizoram and neighboring states.
Highlighting the government’s reforms, the Prime Minister said the new Next-Gen GST will reduce taxes on essentials, medicines, and construction materials, making life easier for families. He added that India’s economy, growing at 7.8% in Q1 2025–26, remains the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
PM Modi stressed Mizoram’s central role in the Act East Policy and the North East Economic Corridor, citing projects like the Sairang–Hmawngbuchhuah rail line and the Kaladan project that will connect Mizoram to the Bay of Bengal and Southeast Asia.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister congratulated the people of Mizoram for the new chapter in connectivity and development. “From today, Aizawl will be on India’s railway map,” he said, expressing confidence that Mizoram’s youth will play a vital role in building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
Governor VK Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were among the dignitaries present.
