Tripura: Vehicle from Union Minister’s Convoy Hijacked; Driver Abducted and Robbed
The incident occurred near Chottakhola as the convoy was returning from an event at the College of Fisheries in Lembucherra.

AGARTALA— In a significant security lapse, a vehicle from the convoy of Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Dr. L. Murugan, was hijacked in Tripura’s Gomati district on May 18.
The incident occurred near Chottakhola as the convoy was returning from an event at the College of Fisheries in Lembucherra.
According to media reports, the hijacked vehicle, became separated from the main convoy. Unidentified assailants intercepted the vehicle, abducted the driver, Mohammad Toiyab, and later abandoned the car near the Assam border.

The driver was released near a tea estate in Habiganj, Bangladesh, after being robbed of over ₹46,000 in cash, his mobile phone, and official identity card.
In a separate but related incident, another vehicle from the ministerial convoy was attacked in Charilam, Sepahijala district. A white WagonR car rear-ended the convoy vehicle, leading to the abduction and assault of driver Ankit Shil.

He was held captive for nearly two hours, during which his belongings were stolen. Police have arrested the main accused, Rajkumar Saha, who has a history of criminal activities.
These incidents have raised serious concerns about the security protocols for visiting dignitaries in the state. Authorities have launched intensive investigations to apprehend all individuals involved and to prevent such breaches in the future.
