Assam: MCC will be enforced strictly- DC Hailakandi

The Hailakandi district administration will strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections on April 18.
Addressing a Press Meet at her office conference hall here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, Keerthi Jalli said the administration will take all possible measures to enforce the MCC and urged all political parties and candidates to abide by the same for free and fair elections.
Jalli said the administration will keep a close tab on social media and would take stringent steps against anyone trying to vitiate the atmosphere. She said flying squads would be formed to keep an eye on the poll related activities.
The Deputy Commissioner said the administration has stepped up SVEEP activities to motivate the voters and to enhance voters’ turnout in areas that registered least polling in the last Assembly elections.
Jalli sought the cooperation of the print and electronic media to check paid news in the run up to the elections. She also sought the cooperation of all sections of people for conducting the elections smoothly.
District Development Commissioner, Amalendu Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner, EL Faihriem and Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra were also present.
Hailakandi, Algapur and Katlicherra LACs fall under 1 HPC Karimganj. Polling will be held in altogether 656 polling stations across the district. The district has a total of 4,74,249 electorate.
