Assam: 3 playgrounds in Hailakandi dist will be transformed into modern ones

With a view of promoting sports activities among the rural youths and to maximize utility of the playgrounds, three playgrounds in Hailakandi district will be transformed into modern ones under the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY).

The foundation stones for development of PCH High School playground of Kanchanpur tea estate, NT Model High School and Nirod Behari Paul High School playgrounds were laid by a representative of Algapur MLA, Nizam Uddin Choudhury, Hailakandi MLA, Anowar Hussain Laskar and a representative of Katlicherra MLA, Suzam Uddin Laskar respectively in the presence of District Development Commissioner, Amalendu Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner, EL Fairheim, District BJP President, Subrata Nath, President, Hailakandi Zilla Parishad, Farhana Khanam Choudhury, District Sports Officer, Jimli Borah and a host of other dignitaries at separate functions on Saturday and Sunday. The development of the playgrounds will cost an estimated Rs.20 lakh each.

Development of playgrounds, an important component of CMSGUY, aims to transform 500 playgrounds in rural areas of the state into modern ones under Phase I. “Transforming rural playgrounds into modern ones will help to unearth hidden talents by nurturing their sporting prowess,” said District Sports Officer, Jimli Borah, adding that the scheme would help to create an enabling environment for promotion of rural sports talents and in developing sports culture in the state.

Sports events are being organised at the three tiers of Panchayati Raj covering children and youths aged between 8 to 30.
