Assam: Bongaigaon to observe Diarrhoea control fortnight

Mobile Medical Units, Boat Clinics and Sanjibani will also be used to create awareness among the people.

Bongaigaon is going to observe Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight from May 28 to June 9. During this week, special awareness drive will be conducted in vulnerable areas, specially in urban slum and riverine areas in convergence with Punchayati Raj Institutions, Municipal Board, Public Health Engineering Department, Education department, Social welfare department, National Urban Livelihoods Mission(NULM) and National Rural Livelihoods Mission(NRLM).

Mobile Medical Units, Boat Clinics and Sanjibani will also be used to create awareness among the people. Special thrust will be given on creating awareness among school children on sanitation hygiene like use of toilet and safe drinking water. Children under the age group of 5 will be specifically targeted during this drive.

A meeting to review the preparedness was held today at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan. Bongaigaon Joint Director of Health Services Dr Ratna Basumatary explained the objective of the meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner in his speech urged all health workers and anganwadi workers to play their respective roles in diarrhoea control with responsibility. Diarrhoea is the second largest cause of death in children under the age of 5 years and therefore the District Heath Society, Bongaigaon pledged to make all efforts to ensure zero diarrhoeal deaths in the district.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Das, Intensified diarrhoea control fortnight(IDCF) Nodal Officer and Medical and Health Officer-1 Dr MI Ahmed besides doctors and employees of various government hospitals and officials of the National Health Mission.

The National Health Mission District Project Manager Smita Roy Chakrabarty spoke on the various aspects of the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight.

The meeting also resolved to set up ORS-Zinc corner in every government and private hospital besides in each anganwadi centre of the district.
