PM Modi Calls Northeast the Gateway to a Developed India at Rising Northeast Investors Summit

NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a compelling keynote at the Rising Northeast Investors Summit, hailing Northeast India as the “Ashtalakshmi” — a symbol of prosperity — and a driving force in India’s journey toward becoming a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

Speaking to an audience of industry leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries including chief ministers of all northeastern states, PM Modi emphasized the Northeast’s transformation over the last decade — from a frontier region to a front-runner of national growth. “This is not just an investors’ summit; it is a movement. The Northeast is ready to lead,” he declared.

Modi highlighted massive investments in connectivity, including the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, Bhupen Hazarika Bridge in Assam, and over 11,000 km of new highways, along with airport expansion and digital connectivity.

He also announced the strategic importance of projects like the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and Kaladan Multimodal Transit Project to boost ASEAN trade.

The Prime Minister called on investors to explore opportunities in organic farming, tourism, food processing, semiconductors, and renewable energy.

He pointed out the region’s emerging role in the global “Heal in India” mission and the growing ecosystem for start-ups and digital innovation.

Reinforcing the government’s commitment to peace and progress in the region, PM Modi said over 10,000 youth have chosen the path of peace and development, and more than ₹21,000 crore has been invested in education and skill development.

“The future of Bharat will rise through the bright future of the Northeast,” he affirmed.
