Two Workers Die in Nagaland Well Accident
Two daily wage workers died after falling into a ring well while cleaning it in Nagaland; rescue teams recovered the bodies after a joint operation.

KOHIMA- Two daily wage workers lost their lives in a tragic accident in Nagaland’s Meriema Basain area on March 26 after falling into a ring well while carrying out cleaning work.
According to officials, the incident occurred at around 2:30 PM when the two workers, belonging to the Kachari community, reportedly entered the well for maintenance purposes and subsequently fell inside under circumstances that are yet to be fully ascertained.

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), were mobilised to the site soon after the incident was reported.
A joint rescue operation was launched, and after several hours of effort, the bodies of the two workers were recovered at approximately 5:30 PM. Officials confirmed that both individuals were declared dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the exact cause of the incident. It remains unclear whether safety measures were in place during the cleaning operation.
Such incidents have periodically raised concerns about occupational safety standards for daily wage workers engaged in hazardous manual work, particularly in confined spaces such as wells.
Further investigation is expected to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.
