Iran Claims shot down of US Fighter Jet Crash

Iranian media report the downing of US fighter jets, while previous similar claims have been denied by US authorities, raising questions over verification.

Iranian state media and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Friday that their air defense forces shot down a second U.S. F-35 stealth fighter over central Iran, marking a significant escalation in the six-week-old regional conflict.

HINDI TUTION

While the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency hailed the “successful interception of a Zionist-linked stealth intruder,” independent analysts and Western defense sources suggest the wreckage shown in state-released imagery may actually belong to a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle.

Conflicting Accounts of the Downing

The IRGC issued a statement via the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), asserting that an “advanced indigenous missile system” tracked and destroyed the aircraft as it entered Iranian airspace.

“Our sky remains a graveyard for those who underestimate our sovereignty,” an IRGC spokesperson stated. Iranian officials further claimed the aircraft was part of a squadron typically based at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom.

However, aviation experts quickly pointed to inconsistencies in the visual evidence. “The debris shown in the latest propaganda footage clearly displays a red vertical stabilizer stripe and the U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) shield,” noted an OSINT analyst on X (formerly Twitter). “Those markings are iconic to the 48th Fighter Wing’s F-15E Strike Eagles, not the F-35.”

U.S. Response and Pilot Status

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has not confirmed any losses from today’s reported engagement. A Pentagon official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, dismissed the claims as “persistent Iranian disinformation,” though they acknowledged “active kinetic operations” in the region.

The fate of the pilot remains a point of intense speculation:

Iranian Claims: State television reported that the pilot did not survive the crash, while subsequent reports urged civilians in the Yazd province to “remain vigilant and report any sightings of foreign paratroopers” for a state reward.

U.S. Stance: CENTCOM previously denied rumors of a crash near Qeshm Island earlier this month, though they confirmed on March 2 that three F-15Es were lost in a “friendly fire” incident over Kuwait.

A Pattern of Escalation

This latest claim follows a verified incident on March 19, where both Washington and Tehran acknowledged a U.S. F-35 was struck. In that instance, the Pentagon confirmed the jet sustained “significant damage” but managed to perform an emergency landing at a coalition base.

The reported downing comes just hours after Iranian “suicide drones” targeted the Mina al-Ahmadi oil refinery in Kuwait, and following U.S. retaliatory strikes on a strategic highway bridge near Tehran.
