Assam CM Meets PM Modi, Railway Minister to Push NDA 3.0 Development Agenda

NEW DELHI-  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday held separate meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, discussing the newly formed NDA 3.0 government’s development priorities and key infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity across the state.

In his meeting with Prime Minister Modi at the latter’s official residence, Sarma briefed the Prime Minister on the initial progress and priorities of the NDA 3.0 government in Assam. The interaction marked the Chief Minister’s first formal meeting with the Prime Minister after assuming office for a second consecutive term.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s continued support and leadership and sought his guidance and blessings for the state’s future development initiatives. Sharing details of the meeting on social media platform X, Sarma said he apprised the Prime Minister of the “headstart” made by the new government and thanked him for his “unstinted support.”

The meeting assumes significance as the Assam government begins its new term with a renewed focus on governance reforms, infrastructure development, welfare initiatives and economic growth. It also underlines the importance of Centre-State coordination in advancing developmental objectives in Assam and the wider Northeastern region.

Later in the day, Sarma met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and reviewed ongoing railway infrastructure projects across Assam. The discussions focused on accelerating railway expansion, improving connectivity and enhancing passenger amenities in the state.

According to the Chief Minister, the two leaders reviewed ongoing projects involving the expansion of more than 1,300 kilometres of railway tracks and the redevelopment of over 50 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

“Always a pleasure to meet our erudite and very knowledgeable Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji,” Sarma wrote on X, adding that they exchanged views on strengthening Assam’s railway network and infrastructure.

The railway projects form part of broader efforts by the Centre and the state government to improve transportation infrastructure, facilitate economic growth and enhance regional connectivity across the Northeast. Officials believe that the expansion and modernization initiatives will improve passenger convenience, boost freight movement and further integrate Assam with the national railway network.

Taken together, the two meetings highlight the Assam government’s focus on securing central support for its development agenda while prioritizing infrastructure, connectivity and long-term economic growth under the NDA 3.0 administration.
