Arunachal’s NIMAS Team Scales Mt. Kangchenjunga, Completes ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ Mission

“This wasn’t just an expedition,” said Colonel Jamwal. “It was a tribute to every corner of India. Our Tiranga now flies atop every state’s highest point.”

ITANAGAR— In a landmark achievement, the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), based in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, successfully summited Mount Kangchenjunga (8,586 m), India’s highest peak and the world’s third tallest .

This feat marked the grand finale of the ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ mission — a patriotic campaign to hoist the national flag atop the highest peaks of all 28 Indian states.

Led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, a distinguished Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awardee and three-time Everest summiteer, the NIMAS team attained a rare 100% summit success rate in one of the world’s most treacherous climbs, overcoming extreme conditions and difficult terrain.

Launched in October 2022 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and in celebration of India’s G20 presidency, the campaign received support from the Ministry of Defence and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Over two years, the team scaled peaks from Mount Gorichen in Arunachal to Anamudi in Kerala, embodying national unity and resilience.

The Kangchenjunga expedition, flagged off on March 26, 2025, by Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, stood as the symbolic “crown” of the campaign. Unlike Everest’s commercial climbs, Kangchenjunga poses a true challenge with a summit success rate below 40%, highlighting NIMAS’s exceptional preparation and leadership.

“This wasn’t just an expedition,” said Colonel Jamwal. “It was a tribute to every corner of India. Our Tiranga now flies atop every state’s highest point.”

Earlier this year, NIMAS also made headlines by setting a world record rafting the entire 1,040 km Indian stretch of the Brahmaputra River, reinforcing its status as a national leader in adventure sports and youth inspiration.

The ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ mission is now etched in history as a powerful symbol of India’s adventurous spirit, unity in diversity, and unwavering patriotism.
