Assam: Wife, Daughter Among 4 Arrested in Shocking Murder of Businessman Uttam Gogoi in Dibrugarh

The incident came to light after the victim’s brother raised objections over the nature of death.

DIBRUGARH– In a chilling case of betrayal and premeditated murder, Assam Police have arrested four individuals, including the wife and minor daughter of 38-year-old businessman Uttam Gogoi, alias Sankai, in connection with his brutal killing at their home in Lahon Gaon, Dibrugarh.

Initially claimed to be a death by pressure stroke, the story began to unravel after Gogoi’s brother noticed suspicious injuries, including cuts on his ear and the presence of an open umbrella near the body, prompting further investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police VV Rakesh Reddy confirmed the arrest of the wife, daughter (a Class 9 student), and two others—one of whom is reportedly a close friend of the daughter. According to police, the accused hired two minor boys to act as contract killers, allegedly paying them several lakh rupees and gold ornaments.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that this was a meticulously planned murder driven by a long-standing family dispute,” a senior officer stated. There were even earlier failed attempts before the final fatal act in July.

The incident came to light after the victim’s brother raised objections over the nature of death.

“This was no pressure stroke. There were cut wounds. This was cold-blooded murder,” he said, demanding strict punishment.

As the news spread, locals staged a protest outside Barbaruah police station, calling for swift justice. The case has shaken the community, igniting concerns about juvenile crime, family betrayal, and the growing moral decay in domestic spaces.

Police continue to interrogate the accused, and more arrests may follow.
