Assam : Work quality and Progress will be monitored- DC Adil Khan

Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi disrtict of Assam, Adil Khan asked all the departments to pitch in their efforts for catapulting the backward district to an aspirational district to achieve Prime Minister’s vision of a New India.
Reviewing the progress of different departments at the District Development Committee (DDC) meeting at his office conference hall, Deputy Commissioner Khan said stern action will be initiated against those for inordinate delay in execution of developmental work. Khan asked the officials of development departments to file FIRs against contractors for ‘dilly-dally’ and even terminate their contracts. “If any contractor keeps a project hanging in the balance for long, he is liable for legal action,” he said.
He asked the development departments to initiate the process for blacklisting the firms for non-completion of work within the stipulated time frame. “No lackadaisical attitude will be tolerated by the administration,” he said.
Evaluating the status of progress of different departments like PWD (Roads, Buildings and National Highways), Education, Water Resources, PHE, Industries and Commerce, Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Forest, Irrigation, DTO, Town and Country Planning, Power, Handloom and Textiles, Sericulture, Cooperation, IWT and Sports, Khan asked the district heads to submit reports highlighting percentage wise progress achieved together with targeted date of completion at least four days before the next DDC meeting.
Khan asked the district heads of development departments to gird up their loins to accelerate the pace of development in the district. He told the officials that he would periodically monitor the status of progress as well as quality of work.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the status of ongoing schemes and projects including mega piped water supply schemes, road projects, anti-erosion work, rural electrification, health and sanitation projects etc. He reviewed the Chief Minister’s Special Package for Barak Valley, SAGY, MSDP, PMEGP, PMGSY etc.
Khan ordered inquiry into inordinate delay in construction of school buildings by PWD (Buildings) at Algapur, Jamira and Janeki Bazar. He ordered initiation of action against officials for dereliction of duty and for not attending the crucial DDC meetings. It was decided in the meeting to hold separate review meetings with the Education and Social Welfare Departments.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the slew of activities of Krishi Vikash Kendra under ICAR headed by senior scientist and head Dr. Azizur Rahman and asked the Agriculture and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Departments to lend support to him for expansion of activities.
District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar read out the minutes of the last meeting and urged the district heads of development departments to pull out all the stops to make Hailakandi an aspirational district through timely execution of work.
The almost five-hour long meeting was attended, among others, by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ruth Lienthang, PD cum CEO, Zilla Parishad, S. Singh, Circle Officers, Madhumita Nath, Tridip Roy and district heads.
