CM Sarma, Gadkari Discuss Brahmaputra Tunnel and Highway Expansion Plans
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed the progress of several strategic infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic growth in Assam.

NEW DELHI- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday held a detailed review meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to assess the progress of several major infrastructure projects that are expected to play a key role in the state’s long-term development.
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Sarma described his interaction with the Union minister as a valuable learning experience and acknowledged Gadkari’s contribution towards the expansion of Assam’s infrastructure network.
The Chief Minister said Assam had benefited significantly from the Union minister’s support and credited him with helping address various infrastructure-related challenges faced by the state over the years.

According to Sarma, the discussions focused on the progress of several transformative projects, including the proposed Brahmaputra underwater tunnel, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridors, National Highway expansion works and road repair projects being undertaken across Assam.
The leaders also reviewed ongoing efforts to strengthen road connectivity and improve transportation infrastructure across the state, which the government views as essential for facilitating economic growth, trade, tourism and regional integration.

Sarma expressed gratitude to Gadkari for his continued support and guidance, including during previous electoral campaigns, and emphasised the importance of Centre-State coordination in implementing large-scale infrastructure projects.
The proposed Brahmaputra underwater tunnel is among the state’s most ambitious connectivity projects and is expected to reduce travel time and improve transportation links across the river. Similarly, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridors are aimed at enhancing highway connectivity while addressing wildlife conservation concerns in and around the Kaziranga landscape.

National Highway expansion and road improvement projects are also being undertaken in different parts of Assam to strengthen connectivity between urban centres, industrial hubs and rural areas.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Assam Bhawan Resident Commissioner Kavitha Padmanabhan were present during the meeting.
The Chief Minister said the infrastructure projects under discussion are expected to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activity and contribute significantly to Assam’s broader development agenda in the coming years.
